Artist Statement

My name is Emily Taylor, and I was born and raised in England, UK. My family are originally from Zimbabwe and now scattered throughout the world. Through a large collection of photographs I took in Zimbabwe and South Africa, I draw inspiration from Africa’s landscapes and wildlife. Translating photographic references into large-scale gouache paintings. My work centres on environmental awareness and action, celebrating the beauty and fragility of the natural world. Through bold scale, layered colour, and careful detail, I aim to create immersive spaces.

I hope to encourage my viewers to reflect on their relationship with nature and the urgency of protecting it.
